When Your Church Needs a New Projector

For many churches, their presentation system is an integral part of their worship experience. When it is time to purchase new products, whether for new spaces or new uses, or to replace aging equipment, making sure you have the right equipment can both make the installation and integration of the new system easier and save you money in the long run.

Selecting a Vendor

Especially for a small church with a limited budget, it can be tempting to head to the local big-box store and buy something off-the-shelf. For most churches, this would be a mistake. Sales people at those stores often do not even know the terminology to discuss the items much less how to specify the proper projector based on use, ambient light, size of space and the other factors which need to be considered in a professional installation. The focus in these stores is on the home theater market and product choice is limited. 80% of the projector equipment sold in big box stores is not right product for the customer who buys it. The wrong equipment, at any price, is too expensive.

In selecting a vendor/consultant, ask for references from other churches, or ask potential candidates for references from churches like yours. Learn whether those other churches were happy with the equipment they purchased and whether problems after the sale have been dealt with appropriately. Find out if the vendor carries a wide range of brands and styles or if she/he only handles one or two types of systems. Determine what services the vendor is selling–are you buying a complete installed package or will you get equipment in boxes and be left to find installers? Get to know the consultant who will handle your account. Has she or he worked with churches like yours in the past?

Ed Goldman of ProjectorTeam, Inc. has been selling projection equipment for fourteen years, primarily to houses of worship. He has assisted over one thousand churches in selecting the equipment that best meets their needs. Ed realizes that each church situation is unique and sees his job as solving the church’s problem rather than just attempting to sell equipment. Since every church is different, there is no single solution applicable to everyone.

Questions to Consider

When Ed begins working with a new customer, the questions he asks include the following:

  1. What is the projector going to be used for? Is it going into a main sanctuary, the fellowship hall or a classroom?

  1. Is the new projector replacing what you currently have? If so do you know the model number and manufacturer of the projector? What do you like and dislike about it?

  2. How large is your congregation on a good Sunday?

  3. Do you have a screen or is the picture just going to a wall?

  4. Do you know how far the projector will be from the screen? Where do you want it mounted (if you know)?

  5. Do you have cabling for the current projector? Do you know what is being run to the projector?

  6. What type of computer are you going to be using? PC or Apple equipment?

  7. Is there a specific person in the church who will be operating the system?

  8. What budget do you have for purchasing the system?

  9. Do you have a picture available of the inside of the sanctuary?

Selecting the Equipment:

ProjectorTeam, Inc. carries over one thousand different projectors, not to mention screens, mounts and other components. With this wide range of equipment at his disposal, Ed will develop a program that promises optimal quality and price for the specific situation. He guarantees that the projectors will meet the customer’s needs. While Ed generally prefers to use Hitachi projectors because of their performance and excellent customer service, at times he recommends Eiki or Ricoh units. Ed believes that DaLite screens are the best in the industry, but for installations where the budget is lower, he considers Mustang.

Since you will be using it for years, purchasing a projector system is a process that should not be taken lightly, and ProjectorTeam Inc. is here to assist. Our goal is not only to provide you with the best equipment for needs, but also for you to know why we recommend the equipment we do. Of course we pride ourselves on providing the best customer service in the industry.
